During the evening of November 5, 2001, most of North America was treated to a fine auroral display. Fortunately for most areas, skies were pretty clear, including northeast Ohio. The first 6pictures are from CVAS member Jim Brownfield which he took from his house from Huntsburg, Ohio. There was an obvious crimson red color throughout much of the display along with rays, a few curtains and a few minutes of pulsating light.

Then, in the early morning hours of November 24, a very strong and bright aurora appeared for about 30 minutes. Jim was up and caught it again. The last 3 photos are from this episode. The last picture is pretty cool as it shows a meteor passing through the curtains.

Jim used a Canon Elan with an infrared remote release set with a 10 second delay after mirror lock up. The images were made using a combination of a 50mm lens and a 28mm-80mm zoom lens. All were tripod shots with 20-30 seconds exposures at f/4. Film was Kodak 400 supra. The last picture is pretty cool as it shows a meteor passing through the curtains.
