Meeting called to order at 8:09 PM. About 9 members and 1 guest were present. .

Officer Reports


Minutes for the May meeting are not yet posted on the CVAS website. Hard copies are available.  


Bank–Member dues were summarized. $1,014.93 in Bank, Petty Cash - $96.00, Electric Fund - $1,752.00 Total - $2,862.93

1. Paid phone bill

2. Paid $42 to Keith 1st half 2006 electric use.

Observatory Director:

The 12 inch Meade has been factory refurbished and is back in the dome.

Marty and Larry met with an electrical contractor, Bill Mitchell, and he is in the process of quoting the electrical service.

The 12mm Nagler missing from the prior meeting is back in the cabinet.

Director of Observations:

Bob’s report was passed around. Mercury will be about ten degrees above the horizon. Mars will go through the center of the beehive cluster on June 15th. Bob had over six inches of rain at his house last month. This was not conducive to viewing. There will be iridium flares tonight.

Old Business:

  1. CEI should be sending Steve Fishman an invoice for about $700 for the service installation..
  2. No activity on Oberle Scope

New Business:

  1. Voted in new member David Bevan who is a friend of Marty Niemi. David will not be able to attend meetings because of his work. .
  2. Saturday June 17 th is OTAA at IHO. We need napkins, hotdogs, charcoal. We should start cooking by 6:00 PM.
  3. Friday, June 23 rd star party at Swine Creek with a 9:00 setup. Saturday June 24 th is the back up date.
  4. Two Mentor Headlands star parties Friday June 30 th and July 28 th with 8:30 setup in lot 14.
  5. Winter meeting survey should be conducted to determine if the membership would prefer a weekday evening meeting at a different location other than Pen Glen.
  6. Larry Lovell’s birthday party is coming up and there will be an e-mail announcing the date and location for the party. His house is on Munn road, about 1 mile south of Taylor-May Road in Auburn township.

Motion to adjourn at 8:55 PM. Cleared up a bit for observing the 1st quarter moon and Jupiter.
