The meeting was called to order at 8:00 pm on June 7 at Indian Hill Observatory. 14 members were present. .

Officer Reports


Minutes from the May meeting are on the CVAS website. . No additions or corrections were noted by the members present. .


Steve provided the following financial data:

Cash in Bank - $2,827.71, Petty Cash - $45.00, Total Cash - $2,872.71

For the month, we paid, telephone in the amount of $52.99, electricity $4.67. The PO Box fee of $58 is up for payment next month. Tom made a motion to renew the box, seconded and approved by the members present.

Vice President:

Dan R. reported that the Geauga Park District has purchased the Nassau Observatory property. The property on which Observatory Park will be built adjoins Nassau . Updated timetable includes continued planning and cutting in the driveway during the remainder of 2007, and building of the science center, observatory, and outdoor areas during the 2nd season..

Observatory Director:

In Marty’s absence, Russ reported a telephone will be in place in the North Observatory next week. Tom suggested we appropriate up to $40 for a plaque to be placed in the North Observatory commemorating Earl Green’s telescope. No formal vote, no objections.


Tom provided the June issue of the Valley Skywatcher. Of special interest in this issue is an article summarizing the observations of a Uranian satellite eclipse made by Bob Modic and Tony Mallama with the Stokes telescope at Indian Hill.. ..


Gary McNeil was present at the meeting, and expressed interest in our activities.

Old Business:

  1. Further discussion about painting the observatory buildings on top of the hill ..
  2. The Lake County Park District would like to conduct a coaching session regarding the operation of the Star Lab program. Larry indicated he has a recorded presentation on this subject that might be helpful also.
  3. The club’s calendar of events was reviewed, including the upcoming star party in Burton , the OTAA event at Indian Hill later in June, and a star party scheduled for Forhring Meadows park on 6/21. Please refer to the full calendar of events posted on the website for details

New Business:

  1. Gus reported on a boy scout leadership event that took place last month in Ashtabula . A new astronomy group is in the process of forming out in that area, and helped out at the event. Tom suggested we invite the individuals forming the astronomy group to come to one of our meetings at the hill this summer

Director of Observations:

Steve F. read Bob’s monthly report for June, and provided copies. For Bob’s complete observation report, please visit the Monthly Sky Calendar on our website. After Steve’s remarks, members reported their observing activities during the last month .
