Director of Observations:

Bob provided his monthly observation report for June. For Bob’s complete report, please visit the Monthly Sky Calendar on our website. The Monthly Sky Calendar page on our website has been completely revised and updated, and contains details and images which complement Bob’s monthly meeting reports.

Bob brought along video imaging equipment with the hope of observing the full moon’s occultation of Antares after the meeting. (Unfortunately, clouded out)

Guest presenter, John Augustine, demonstrated his 5” Alvan Clark refractor (f15). The lens and wooden optical tube date back to 1860. The current mount was added in 1919. In addition to having the telescope on hand, John brought along many photographs and other documents with details about this telescope. After the meeting, John projected pictures of the refurbishing work he performed a couple of years ago on the objective lens of the telescope at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. The club would like to thank John for his very interesting presentations

A group photo was made of everyone present (including the Alvan Clark refractor!)

Special note: The club offers sincere congratulations and best wishes to Gus on his recent retirement from the Geauga Water Resources Department, after 42 years.

Intermittent clouds made observing after the meeting challenging. But the observatories were open, and some of the recent improvements to the facilities were discussed. A new flat screen monitor and workstation has been added to the Dome observatory, and improvements to the polar alignment of both telescopes in the North observatory have been made. A new flat screen monitor was added to the PC in the North observatory as well.

Our next meeting is 7/11/09 at Indian Hill starting at 8:00 pm.

Meeting adjourned at 10:00 pm.
