The meeting was called to order at 8:00 pm on May 3 at Indian Hill Observatory. 16 members were present. .

Officer Reports


Minutes from the April meeting are on the CVAS website. . No additions or corrections were noted by the members present. .


Steve provided the following financial data:

Cash in Bank - $1,644.52, Petty Cash - $52.00, Total Cash - $1,696.52

For the month, we paid, telephone in the amount of $51.80, electricity $5.53. We also paid $364.80 for 15 tons of gravel for the driveway.

Vice President:

Observatory Director:

In Marty’s absence, Russ reported that 15 tons of gravel was spread on the driveway between the road and the lower parking lot..


Tom intends to provide the next issue of The Valley Skywatcher at the June membership meeting. ..


No visitors showed up at the meeting. .

Old Business:

  1. The star party originally scheduled to occur at Observatory Park in September will be rescheduled for October. We need to let the planners know how many of us with scopes that evening will need electricity..
  2. Tom reported that the arrangements with Lake County MetroParks have been finalized regarding the Super Star Party scheduled for 8/9/08 . CVAS members are to have at least 12 scopes on hand. In addition, Ian & Larry will provide the presentation before the viewing begins. We also will conduct 2 Star Labs during the viewing
  3. Plans were discussed to paint the observatory buildings on top of the hill. The shed, and the driveway hill rail, need some repair. Bob Modic made the motion that the club appropriate up to $100 for the purchase of paint. Tom seconded the motion, and it passed unanimously

New Business:

  1. The Geauga Historical Society has asked the club if we would provide telescopes and viewing opportunities for the public after a free concert to be held in Burton . There appeared to be a consensus that this event should be placed on our calendar for 7/11/08 . The concert is over at 8:30
  2. The OTAA convention to be held at Indian Hill is scheduled to take place on 6/28/08 . We will provide dinner as in the past. Steve F will put a sign up sheet on the website..
