President Ian Cooper called the meeting to order at 8:10 pm on May 2 at Indian Hill Observatory. 19 members were present. .

Officer Reports

Secretary:

The minutes from the April meeting are posted on the website. No additions or corrections were noted by the members present.

Treasurer:

Steve provided the following financial data:

Cash in Bank - $2,253.63, Petty Cash - $70.00, Total Cash - $2,323.63. .

For the month, we paid telephone in the amount of $51.82, electricity $5.03. .

Membership approved $51 to reimbure Marty for new mower blades. Balance on the land is $1,900.

Vice President:

Dan R was not present

Observatory Director:

Marty noted that a 3 foot. vinyl screen door was donated for the main observatory. The plan is to have it installed before next meeting .

Old Business:

  1. The club calendar was reviewed.

New Business:

  1. Ian Cooper is working to secure a 10 ½” F/15 Alvin Clark Refractor for Observatory Park. Built in 1922 it’s currently residing in a basement in Finger Lakes New York.
  2. Observatory Park now has a Grant Writer working on proposals. CVAS will be involved with any Fund Raiser
  3. CVAS has offered the 14 ¼” DOB to Lake Park System, to be housed at their Girdled Road facility. Waiting on response from park director
  4. New star parties added:

    - Moon Party – May 9 at Swine Creek Reservation.
    - OCtober 23 at Frohring Meadows.

Director of Observations:

Bob provided his monthly observation report for May. For Bob’s complete report, please visit the Monthly Sky Calendar on our website. Also, Bob noted last month’s observations - new eclipsing cataclysmic variable CSS 081231:071126+440405. The magnitude ranged from 14-19 and had a very quick magnitude change in a matter of seconds.

Our next meeting is 6/6/09 at Indian Hill starting at 8:00 pm.

Meeting adjourned at 8:45 pm. Partly cloudy skies provided us with observing the 1st quarter moon, Saturn and a few ddp sky objects.
