November 2008 Edition

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 pm on November 3 at The Rookery. 16 members were present. .

Officer Reports


The minutes from the October meeting are posted on the website. No additions or corrections were noted by the members present.


Steve provided the following financial data:

Cash in Bank - $2,404.39, Petty Cash - $33.00, Total Cash - $2,437.39 .

For the month, we paid, telephone in the amount of $51.60, electricity $7.53.

Vice President:

Dan R. continued reporting on the status of construction at Observatory Park..

Observatory Director:

In Marty’s absence, Russ reported that the property at Indian Hill is in good shape as the winter season approaches. The roof roll-off chain in the North Observatory has been lubricated.


No update at this time. .


1 visitor (Dale Cubranich) was at tonights meeting. He joined the club at the end of the meeting.

Old Business:

  1. Election of Officers: The following members have been nominated for official positions for the coming year. As there was no opposition, the election took place by acclamation. Effective at the end of tonight’s meeting, the terms run for 1 year. President: Ian Cooper , Vice President: Dan Rothstein , Treasurer: Steve Fishman, Director of Observations: Bob Modic, Observatory Director: Marty Niemi , Secretary: Ron Baker.
  2. Tom reported that the Geauga Park District will provide the host site ( Observatory Park ) for the new Geauga County IDA section. An organizational meeting will be held in January 2009.

New Business:

  1. Our next meeting is 12/1/08 at the Rookery 7:30 pm

Director of Observations:

Bob provided his monthly report for November, and provided copies. For Bob’s complete observation report, please visit the Monthly Sky Calendar on our website. After Bob’s remarks, Dan R showed a PowerPoint presentation on Observatory Park . To end the evening, recent images taken at Indian Hill were projected for all to view .

Meeting adjourned at 9:30 PM. A cloudy and rainy night prevented any viewing.
