Observatory Director:

The electrical hookup from First Energy was finally done. Weather permitting, we will run an electrical line from the north shed to the observatory to complete the job this fall.

More gravel was put down on new drive section on top of hill.

A new focuser was installed on the 16".

The dome shutter is having problems, some work needs to be done on it.

The 12" LX200 is having problems again. So this has been taken out of the dome again and Marty has installed his own telescope. Note, any member still can use this, they just need to go through a "training" session first.

A new PC was installed to run the 16".

Director of Observations:

Bobs report was handed out. For Bob's complete observation report, please visit the Monthly Sky Calendar on our website.

Old Business:

  1. Had a vote on a new insurance policy. We are getting a new insurance policy, are current policy costs $594 a year. We have a choice between a couple of different policies, the differences are:One policy costs $395 dollars a year and provides for a higher coverage ($29,000) for the buildings their contents and covers any Medical expensives up to $10,000. The second policy costs $363 dollars and provides for a lower coverage for the buildings their contents ($23,000) and covers any Medical expensives up to $5,000. We took a vote on this and all the members present voted for the higher coverage, but we don’t know if we had enough members to make this official.  The 11 members present voted for the higher coverage
  2. Took a vote on where to have our winter meetings. The choices are either to have it at the North Chagrin Reservation located off of Rt91 (SOM Center Rd), between Rt6 and Wilson Mills Rd on the first Monday of the month. Or have it at Holden Arboretum the first Tuesday of the month. The meetings will probably start around 7:30PM, and both places offer similar things. Basically it comes down to the place and day of the week. Of the members present, 8 voted for North Chagrin and 1 voted for Holden. .

New Business:

  1. Went over calendar.
  2. Dan gave a report on his trip to the Black Forest Star Party from August 25-27.
  3. Had a talk on using the clubs telescopes that are not being used. One idea is to put a permanent mount down by the north shed for Denny's old 12". Then we can just cover this mount when not in use. This should enable the telescope to be setup in maybe about 5 minutes.

Motion to adjourn at 8:40 PM. It was a very rainy and cloudy day and night so no viewing was done after the meeting.
